DO THE DILLA 2012 – A TRIBUTE TO THE DRUM MASTER by Feelin’ Music

by oddbodkins on February 22, 2012

For those in the know, February is about as close as we come to a high holy month for beat music, as it marks the anniversary of the birth and death of the late, great beat maestro, J. Dilla.  What the lesser informed may or may not know is that Feelin’ Music puts out quite possibly the best tribute album project to the genius.  Now in its second year, DO THE DILLA is about as good as it gets.  While 2011’s album was damn good, it mostly took Dilla’s work and expounded on it, using original source material and taking it to its furthest conclusions.  This year, however, the artists involved have taken things a step further, using Dilla’s tracks more as a template to create new works that tip the cap while keeping the heads nodding.  And it’s a pretty damn impressive list of participants, too, including such stalwarts as Mr. Dibiase, Ta-Ku, Moka Only and Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie, amongst others.  For those with a craving for more Donuts.
